DISCIPLINE

Silver Beach is committed to providing a safe, courteous learning environment for all students and staff. Our discipline policy is not meant to be punitive punishment; rather our goal is to provide learning opportunities for students at every step. I tell students I meet with that we have no "bad" students at Silver Beach, however each of us at times makes poor choices. Our goal is to learn from the choices we make. Please discuss the following with your child at home.

Goals:
1. Always do your best!
2. Be courteous and considerate toward others
3. Make safe choices
4. Respect property and each other

Office Referral Process:

Initial Step
· Referral Slip is filled out by staff
· Problem Report filled out by student
· Conference with principal
· Behavior report/notes written by principal
· Phone call home
· Opportunity to make restitution

Further Step(s)
· Removal from playground/area of concern for identified length of time, or logical consequence
· Individual behavior plan developed with student, teacher, parents, and principal
· Short Term Suspension/Long Term Suspension/Expulsion (depending upon the severity of the action

*** An immediate consequence will occur for serious incidents such as fighting, insubordination, and vandalism. The school reserves the right to skip steps to ensure a safe learning environment for all students. NO student will be allowed to disrupt the learning environment for other students, or the instructional process for staff members. Fighting, insubordination, and vandalism are offenses that may cause students to skip steps.

*** Board policy dictates emergency expulsion and/or suspension for arson; criminal acts as defines by law, assault, possession or use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco, and possession of any weapons or explosives (including "fake" weapons).

DRUG, ALCOHOL, TOBACCO POLICY

The Bellingham School District affirms that the unlawful possession and use of illicit drugs and alcohol are wrong and harmful. Consequently, policy has been adopted regarding the use, possession and purchase of drugs, alcohol and tobacco while on school property, in reasonable
proximity to, or at school sponsored activities or events. Please refer to District policy 3200 "Student Rights and Responsibilities" for further information.
